While most of the Mets were in London to play the Phillies on Sunday, one Met made a surprise appearance nearly 3,500 miles away at Citi Field.

Kodai Senga, who has yet to pitch this season while he rehabs a shoulder injury, was at the Mets' home stadium to continue his recovery process, which was a surprise for people who gathered at the stadium for a watch party of the India-Pakistan World Cup cricket match.

As documented by Newsday's Laura Albanese, Senga walked out to right field and began playing catch. He continued the exercise during a rain delay in the cricket match, working on his long toss, which has been the latest activity in his recovery.

Senga was shut down in Spring Training with a right shoulder strain. His rehab of that injury was slowed a bit by triceps tightness in May.

Assuming there are no further setbacks, Senga is expected to make his 2024 debut sometime after the All-Star break. He went 12-7 with a 2.98 ERA and 202 strikeouts in 29 starts in his rookie campaign last season, and finished second in the NL Rookie of the Year voting.
