NEW YORK -- To the surprise of no one, Mets ace Jacob deGrom was named to the 2018 National League All-Star team on Sunday night. The man with the best ERA of any starter in baseball earned his second All-Star selection with a superb first half.
deGrom is the only Met who will be part of the NL squad in Washington on July 17 for the All-Star Game presented by Mastercard. deGrom has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, leading all Major League starters with an ERA of 1.79.
deGrom has allowed three runs or fewer in 15 consecutive starts, which is the longest streak by a Mets starter within one season since Dwight Gooden did so in 24 straight in 1985. He has thrown a quality start and struck out at least six batters in each of his past 10 starts, which is the second-longest streak in franchise history, next to Tom Seaver's 15 straight quality starts with at least six K's.

"You never know what's going to happen. Just try to control what you can control," deGrom said. "That's kind of the same mindset I take on the mound. As long as you're giving 100 percent and you can look yourself in the mirror after that, you can be happy with what you gave out there."
This will be deGrom's second All-Star nod after playing in the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati, where he threw only 10 pitches in one scoreless inning, and nine of them were strikes. He became the first pitcher in All-Star Game history to strike out three batters in an inning on 10 pitches or less.

"I'm looking forward to getting in the game again. Last time I was fortunate enough to get to pitch, and hopefully this time I do, too," deGrom said.
The two-time All-Star says this year may be a little different for him. deGrom is looking forward to spending the All-Star Week with his family, especially his son Jackson, who he said he is excited to bring out on the field during the T-Mobile Home Run Derby.

Then on Tuesday, July 17, while watching the 2018 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard live on FOX, fans can submit their choices for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet with the 2018 All-Star Game MLB.com MVP Vote.
The 89th Midsummer Classic, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 180 countries. FOX Deportes will provide Spanish-language coverage in the United States, while ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage of the All-Star Game.
