He wins Cy Young Awards. He hits. He runs the bases. He used to be a shortstop. Now, Jacob deGrom can add infield positioning coach to his laundry list of talents.

The Mets ace, who is on the injured list with right side discomfort, was still locked into the game against the Braves on Monday night. So locked in, in fact, that he was willing to help out Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman. From his post in the dugout, deGrom was giving signals to Freeman about where to position himself around the bag, reminding the reigning NL MVP Award winner how many outs there were and suggesting when to play off the line, or when to look for a bunt.

Freeman, no stranger to on-field antics, very much leaned into it, looking over at deGrom as if to say, "Well coach, what should I do now."

"Walt Weiss just lost his job," Ron Darling quipped on the broadcast, referring to Atlanta's bench coach.

It's all well and good for deGrom to give Freeman a couple pointers in the field, but you know he won't be doing it when the Braves slugger -- who is a lifetime .303 hitter against the Mets with an .895 OPS -- steps to the plate. It's a matchup between two greats we can only look forward to seeing even more now.
