Lindor stands alone among shortstops with 25-25 feat

NEW YORK – Mets shortstop put himself in the record books during New York's 4-3 walk-off victory on Wednesday afternoon. By hitting his 25th home run of the season, Lindor became the first shortstop in Major League history to hit 25 home runs and steal 25 bases in a season three times. He previously accomplished this last year with the Mets and in 2018 with Cleveland.

Lindor became just the third active player with three seasons of 25-plus homers and 25-plus steals on his ledger, joining Mike Trout and José Ramírez. Lindor also joined Ramírez, Shohei Ohtani and Bobby Witt Jr. as the fourth player to reach 25-25 this season.

Lindor already had 25 steals when he came to the plate in the third inning, swung at a 1-1 pitch from left-hander Cole Irvin and hit the ball over the right-center-field fence for his 25th home run of the season, which gave New York a 1-0 lead.

Lindor said he had no idea what he accomplished until teammate Brandon Nimmo announced in the locker room after the game that Lindor reached the 25-25 plateau.

“It’s an honor. It’s a privilege to be in a place where I’m healthy enough to do stuff like that,” Lindor said.

Lindor credits a lot of people for his success in the big leagues. But it starts with his father, Miguel, and cousin, Christian.

“They always pushed me to be better,” Lindor said.
