Queens resident and Mets gameday employee Sheila Caputo has brought warmth and humor to Citi Field since 2007, catering to Mets legends, celebrities, and tens of thousands of everyday suite holders. Beyond the ballpark, Sheila’s humanitarian efforts extend to the community where she regularly donates money and clothing to the less fortunate. Her presence is even felt throughout the world, as evidenced by a recent trip to Cuba where Sheila brought toiletries from home to give to the less fortunate.

Sandra Battle is a Career and Finance teacher at Transit Tech High School in Brooklyn. Her students are from an underserved community, so she works to help them to succeed by coaching them on real-life skills such as job networking, resume writing, and personal money management. Sandra believes in finding solutions to everyday problems that people tend to overlook, like finding small means to navigate around poverty or finding ways to help others overcome adversity. Bobby Lee has been a Mets concession worker for fifty years spanning Shea Stadium and Citi Field. After graduating college, Bobby became a full-time firefighter in New York, helping manage the aftermath of 9/11. Shortly thereafter, Bobby retired from the FDNY and moved with his wife to Kansas City. Despite being twelve-hundred miles away, Bobby kept his commitments in Queens by commuting back to New York for every Mets homestand – a practice he maintains to this day. We are excited to highlight Bobby for his tremendous dedication to the Mets and New York community over the past fifty years.

Maria Velat is a track and field para athlete and rising Junior at the University of Michigan. Last year, she competed in the first ever wheelchair track collegiate championships, recognized by the NCAA and funded by Guardian. After years of petitioning, Maria transformed the rules for Michigan’s high school athletic association enabling para athletes to score points for their high school track and field teams on the regional level. She continues to advocate for full inclusion of adaptive athletes at the state level. For more on Maria, click here.
