'Bring on the nostalgia': Marlins revive teal uniforms
MIAMI -- Teal is back.
Following a Q&A session with alumni Jeff "Mr. Marlin" Conine, Gaby Sanchez and Luis Aquino on Saturday afternoon at FanFest, the Marlins aired a video announcing their plans to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary throughout 2023. This upcoming season also marks the 20th anniversary of the club's second World Series championship.
As part of "Flashback Fridays," the Marlins will wear the pinstripe teal uniforms, helmets and caps for at least five Friday home games at loanDepot park. The club also will introduce a museum in the old Taste of Miami section behind the left-field wall, where fans can expect to see artifacts from seminal moments of the franchise's history. Game balls will have a special logo, and Marlins alumni will make appearances on those select dates.
Miami last wore the fan-favorite teal uniforms during the 2018 season for a weekend series against the Padres to commemorate the organization's 25th anniversary.
"I think moving forward, we're going to do a lot better at glorifying this franchise and celebrating what we've done over 30 years, and I think this year is going to be a great kickoff point," said Conine, who rejoined the Marlins in November as a special assistant to chairman and principal owner Bruce Sherman.
"We're going to do a lot of stuff -- like we said in the announcement, just having alumni come back, and we're wearing the teal on select Fridays, and having special guests throughout the year that celebrate this franchise. There's so many great players that have played here and gone on to maybe do great things in other places, but they played in Florida, so we've got to make special note of that."
Details on when merchandise will be available and what games will feature the teal uniform will be released at a later date.
