Mariners sign infielder Patrick Wisdom
Seattle’s 40-man Major League Roster is now at 39 players
SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the Mariners have signed free agent infielder Patrick Wisdom to a one-year contract. Per club policy, the terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Seattle’s 40-man roster is now at 39 players.
Wisdom, 28**,** spent the majority of last season with Triple-A Nashville in the Rangers organization, where he hit 31 home runs and 74 RBI in 107 games with a .240 (95x396) batting average. With Nashville, he appeared defensively at 5 different positions, including first base, third base, center field, left field and right field. He also appeared in 9 games with the Rangers last season, batting .154 (4x26) with 1 run scored, 1 double, 1 RBI and 1 walk, while appearing defensively at first base and third base.
Wisdom was originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1st round (52nd overall) of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of St. Mary’s College of California. He made his Major League debut with the Cardinals on August 12, 2018 at Kansas City, starting at first base and going 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. On December 11, 2018, he was traded to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Drew Robinson. He has appeared in parts of 2 Major League seasons with the Cardinals (2018) and Rangers (2019), batting .224 (17x76) with 12 runs scored, 2 doubles, 4 home runs, 11 RBI, 2 stolen bases and 7 walks in 41 games.
