SEATTLE – Jimmy Yacabonis hadn’t started a Major League game in 13 months, so who could blame him for putting in a little extra effort to try and get a double play in the first inning of Game 2 against the A’s on Monday night at T-Mobile Park?

Yacabonis, who got the spot start in the second game, hustled over to first base to be in position for the relay throw back to first on a double-play attempt, which was started by first baseman Evan White.

Problem was, White had quickly retreated to the bag and had to outstretch Yacabonis to receive the throw back from shortstop Donovan Walton. Oakland’s Robbie Grossman beat the throw to first for a fielder’s-choice grounder on the 3-6 putout.

Yacabonis was making just his second appearance for Seattle, having pitched an inning of scoreless relief last week against the Giants after being acquired from the Padres in exchange for cash considerations on Aug. 17.
