The Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team (BAASST) is a partnership established in 1996 by the San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors, Oakland A’s, San Jose Earthquakes and San Jose Sharks. Each participating sports team has contributed to the scholarship program in a collective effort to assist Bay Area high school students achieve goals of higher education. This unique committee is the first of its kind in the realm of professional sports.
The Bay Area All-Star Scholarships will be awarded to six successful students residing within the Bay Area’s nine counties. Each scholar will receive an award in the amount of $5,000 and will be recognized at team ceremonies. The San Francisco Giants’ BAASST territory consists of all public and charter high schools in San Francisco, Marin and Sonoma county.
Student applicants must meet the following criteria for nomination:
- Be a college-bound senior currently attending a public or charter high school in San Francisco, Marin or Sonoma county
- Display leadership qualities in the classroom or in extracurricular activities
- Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 from sophomore to senior year of high school
- Demonstrate the value of education, good work ethic and community outreach
There will be no discrimination regardless of race, color, religion, political beliefs, abilities/disabilities, health, socioeconomic status, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law when choosing a successful scholarship recipient.
Immediate family members, relatives and front office employees in association with the selection committee and the sponsoring sports teams are not eligible for consideration of a scholarship.
School officials should submit letters of recommendation to students for inclusion in online applications (preferred).
