Luis David Matos...wife Vivian (Medina)...Karina (9/22/06) and son Luis (9/28/07)...1996 graduate with honors from the Disciple of Christ Academy in Bayamon, Puerto Rico in 1996...participated on Puerto Rico teams that won the Mustang level World Series in Puerto Rico, runners-up at the Pony World Series and won the Colt World Series...was the third overall pick by Caguas in the Puerto Rican Winter League draft...originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 40th round of the 1992 June First-Year Player Draft.

Spent the entire season with Yucatan in the Mexican League.
2005
The center fielder missed almost two months with skin damage on his right ring finger after being hit with a Jesse Crain pitch on May 10. Matos hit a two-run homer off Barry Zito on Opening Day and finished the season with a .280 average and 32 RBIs.
2004
Suffered an injury-shortened season for third time in the last four years...Played in 89 games but none after July 21 due to a stress fracture in his right shin. Originally suffered the stress fracture in spring training and missed 10 days near the beginning of the exhibition schedule...Re-injured his shin on July 21 at Boston, when he crashed against the wall in leftcenter field while making a catch. Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 23, retroactive to July 22, and missed the remainder of the season...Had surgery on his shin on August 11. Played in 89 of the first 92 games, including 85 starts, prior to the injury...Entered defensively in the 9th inning on June 20 at Colorado after missing the first two games there with bruised ribs suffered on June 14 at Cleveland. After batting .176 through his first 15 games of the year, posted a season-high 6-game hitting streak to close the month of April, going 10-for-25. Homered in back-to-back games on May 13 at Chicago and May 14 vs. Anaheim...Was the 6th time in his career he has hit home runs in consecutive games. Had 3 hits, including a double and home run, on May 19 at Seattle...Also had 3 hits on June 1 at New York and April 29 vs. Seattle. Stole 12 bases in 16 attempts...Ranked 9th in the American League with 12 stolen bases on June 27 but did not have a steal over his final 21 games of the year. Went 4-for-51 with 2 RBI over his final 16 games of the season.
2003
Began the season at AAA Ottawa before joining the Orioles in late May and then became the everyday centerfielder for the remainder of the season...Batted .303 in 45 games for the Lynx and was recalled by the Orioles when Gary Matthews Jr. was claimed off waivers by the San Diego Padres...Hit safely in 82 of his 109 games with the Orioles...Average was never below .300 at any point during the year...Fell to a season-low .303 four times, including his season-ending average...Hit safely in the first 15 games he played after his recall, the longest streak by an Oriole to start a season since Davey Johnson hit safely in his first 17 games in 1971...Batted .444 (28-63) with 8 doubles and 2 home runs during the hitting streak, which was the longest of his career...Had 10 multi-hit games during the hitting streak and was tied for 3rd on the team with 37 multi-hit games on the season...In addition to the 15-game hitting streak, had three other hitting streaks of at least 9 games...Had a 9- game hitting streak, June 26-July 5, batting .419 (18-43), hit safely in 10 straight games, August 1-9, batting .372 (16-43), and had a 10-game hitting streak, September 12-25, going 12-for-33 (.364)...Played in 83 of 85 games after joining the team until August 27, when he missed two games with a contusion of his left wrist after being hit by a pitch the previous day...Played in 109 of the final 117 games of the season...Surpassed previous career totals in hits (133 to 66), doubles (23 to 13), home runs (13 to 5) and RBI (45 to 30) while playing in fewer games (109 to 120)...Batted .350 at Camden Yards, the 3rd highest home batting average in the American League...Had 10 three-hit games on the season...Had a career-high 4 hits twice - September 5 vs. Seattle and July 20 vs. Anaheim...Was named American League Player of the Week for July 17-20, after batting .600 (9-15) with a home run and 5 RBI in the Orioles' 4-game sweep over Anaheim to begin the second half...Hit safely in 42 of his first 49 games of the season through July 22, batting .366 (75-205) with 46 runs scored...Hit .248 (58-234) with 24 runs over his final 60 games.
2000
Started the season with Triple-A Ottawa before getting recalled by the Orioles on May 23 ... Hit safely in his first 15 Major League games of the season ... Was hitting over .400 until he went 0-for-4 against the Blue Jays on June 18 ... Posted a .344 average with six home runs and 18 RBIs before the All-Star break ... Hit .273 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs afterward ... Finished the season with career highs in virtually every statistical category ... Played 106 games in center field, four games in right field and two games as Baltimore's DH.
1999
Began season at Class A Frederick before a June 29 promotion to AA Bowie...Batted .266 (148-556) between the two teams, with 26 doubles, 16 homers and 77 RBI...Named to Carolina League All-Star team with Frederick...Earned CL Player of the Week honors, June 3-9, when he batted .455 (10-22) with 3 homers, 7 runs scored and 10 RBI in 6 games...Was named 8th best prospect in Carolina League...Had 8-game hitting streak, April 22-30, including 4-hit, 2-homer game April 29 vs. Potomac...Also had 4 hits on June 15 vs. Potomac...Had one 4-hit game after promotion to Bowie, on July 24 at Erie...Had 21 multi-hit games at Frederick and 20 at Bowie...Stole a combined 41 bases in 51 attempts between the two teams...Batted .330 with 5 homers in a 20-game span with AA Bowie in July...Hit .261 in his first 51 games with Baysox, but went 9-for-61 (.148) over his final 15 games to end up at .237.

Spent the season at Delmarva before moving up to Bowie at end of South Atlantic League season...Led Orioles organization with 43 stolen bases...Batted .325 (26-80) in August with 10 RBI and 12 runs...Joined Bowie on 9/3 and hit 3-run HR vs. Reading in season finale 9/7.
1997
Began season at Delmarva before moving to Bluefield...Tied for 2nd in Appalachian League with 26 steals...Tied for 1st in stolen base pct. at .867 (26-30)...Stole bases in 6 straight games, going 7-for-7, 8/19-24...Batted .309 (34-110) in August...Batted .253 (91-359) combined between Delmarva and Bluefield.
1996
Batted .395 (17-43) while hitting safely in 13 of 14 games from 8/7-23...Committed his only error in his 1st game in the outfield 7/3, then played errorless ball in final 40 games.
2004
After beginning the season in the minors, appeared in 72 games for the Orioles, the most of any of the 16 rookies to play for the club during the season...Started the year at AAA Rochester and batted .171 in 11 games before being sent to AA Bowie...Batted .323 (32-99) in his last 27 games with the Baysox and went 16-for-40 (.400) with 7 walks and 6 extra-base hits in his last 11 games after being moved to the second spot in the lineup...Tied for the Baysox club lead with 5 triples despite playing just 50 games at AA...Stole 7 bases in a 9-game stretch, May 5-14 and twice in his time at Bowie stole second and third base in the same inning...Was recalled by the Orioles following the game on June 18 and made his major league debut the next night at Oakland...Was hitless in his first 15 at bats before recording his first major league hit on July 3 vs. Toronto, a single off David Wells...Following the 0-for-15 start, batted .246 over his last 55 games...Played in 32 of 33 games from July 25 to August 29, making 29 starts...Hit safely in 20 of the 33 games, batting .248 (25-101) with 9 stolen bases and 13 runs...Hit his first major league home run off Chicago's Mike Sirotka on August 14...Bruised his left shoulder in a collision with Detroit first baseman Dean Palmer on groundout on August 29 and appeared in just two of the next 11 games, both as a pinch-runner...Was 11-for-50 (.220) in 19 games after the injury...Was second among American League rookies with 13 stolen bases...Tied the club record with 4 steals on July 30 vs. Cleveland.
