2007

One of the most dominant closers in the major leagues for the first half of the season, Gagne was acquired by the Red Sox from the Texas Rangers at the July 31 trade deadline...Went 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA and 16 saves in 34 appearances with the Rangers, converting 16 of 17 save opportunities for a 94.1% success rate that ranked as 4th best in the majors at the time of the trade...Had the 8th lowest ERA among A.L. relievers while holding opponents to a .192 batting average, 10th best in the league...However, went on to post a 6.75 ERA (14 ER/18.2 IP) in 20 appearances for the Red Sox, allowing runs in 7 of the 20 contests...Overall between the 2 clubs, compiled a 5.91 ERA (21 ER/32.0 IP) in his final 33 games beginning June 24 after posting a 0.45 ERA (1 ER/20.0 IP) in his first 21 games of the season...Worked 4.2 scoreless innings in his final 5 games and posted a 2.84 ERA (4 ER/12.2 IP) in his last 13 outings.
