DETROIT -- The Dodgers moved right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who's been dealing with right triceps tightness, to the 60-day injured list on Sunday, meaning he won't be eligible to return before Aug. 16. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers activated right-handed pitcher Brent Honeywell.

“Yamamoto’s thrown twice this past week,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Friday. Roberts added that Yamamoto played catch out to 60 feet twice, and he played catch on July 13. He had no soreness or pain, so Roberts said that Yamamoto was "in a good spot.”

After Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Tigers, Roberts said putting Yamamoto on the 60-day IL was a matter of "paperwork," and isn't going to impact the time at which Yamamoto will eventually return to the rotation, as the club knew he would be out until around mid-August regardless.

Yamamoto first reported issues following a career-high 106-pitch start against the Yankees on June 7. The Dodgers gave him two extra days off in the hopes that would resolve things, but he felt something again while facing the Royals on June 15 and ended up exiting after just two innings. An MRI revealed no tear.

The 25-year-old has gone 6-2 with a 2.92 ERA over 14 starts in his first big league campaign after signing a 12-year, $325 million deal over the offseason.
