Utility man adds depth with Hernandez headed to injured list
With utility man Enrique Hernandez headed to the injured list with an undisclosed hand injury, the Dodgers acquired infielder/outfielder Kristopher Negrón from the Mariners on Sunday night in exchange for Minor League infielder Daniel Castro.
Negron, 33, has appeared in nine games for the Mariners, batting .217 (5-for-23) with three runs scored and one RBI. Prior to having his contract selected on July 16, Negron hit .310 with an .899 OPS, 12 homers and 61 RBIs in 82 games for Triple-A Tacoma.
Negron has played parts of six Major League seasons for the Reds, D-backs and Mariners, registering a career .215 batting average with seven homers and 25 RBIs. The California native has played seven different positions in his Major League career. He was originally selected by the Red Sox in the seventh round (223rd overall) of the 2006 Draft from Cosumnes River Junior College (Calif.).
Castro, 26, has spent the majority of this season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, for whom he batted .241 with seven doubles, one homer and 12 RBIs in 45 games. He is currently on a Minor League rehab assignment after missing two months with an injury.
