Turner nears return after ramping up rehab
Dodgers third baseman could come off DL as soon as Thursday
LOS ANGELES -- Justin Turner could return from the disabled list as early as Thursday, manager Dave Roberts said on Tuesday after watching Turner go through a hearty workout that included a three-inning simulated game.
Turner has been on the disabled list with a strained right groin muscle and is eligible to be activated on Thursday. Roberts said he expected Turner to be ready Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
"He looked good in the batter's box, running laterally was good, running the bases was good. I'm encouraged," said Roberts. When Turner returns to third base, Manny Machado will move back to shortstop.
Worth noting
Hyun-Jin Ryu, out since May 3 with a strained groin, will begin a Minor League rehab assignment with a Thursday start for Class-A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga.
