LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers reportedly reached a bonus agreement with third-round Draft pick Jake Vogel, a speedy high school outfielder who was considered a tough sign because of a commitment to UCLA. The club has not confirmed the deal.

According to Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline, Vogel will receive $1,622,500, nearly triple the $581,600 slot value for the third-round pick. Vogel is the fifth Dodgers pick to come to terms. Texas Tech right-hander Clayton Beeter, a competitive balance pick with a slot value of 1,003,300, is the lone remaining pick without an agreement and the Dodgers can pay him nearly $1.2 million without triggering a penalty.

The Dodgers earlier agreed with first-rounder Bobby Miller (RHP, Louisville), second-rounder Landon Knack (RHP, E. Tennessee State), fourth-rounder Carson Taylor (C, Virginia Tech) and fifth-rounder Gavin Stone (RHP, Central Arkansas).

Vogel, from Huntington Beach High School, is 5-foot-11, 165 pounds and a right-handed spray hitter who utilizes his speed (6.15 seconds for 60 yards) and is a true center fielder with a strong throwing arm.

“He’s a dynamic athlete,” Billy Gasparino, vice president of amateur scouting, said on Draft Day. “Seventy runner [on a max 80-grade scale] with a big arm, plus center field defense, got power. Physically gifted kid. He missed last summer with a back injury, but this fall and early spring performed really well and kind of shot up our board.

“This is running-back sprinter speed, like strong, explosive, powerful strides. He can really get after it. We think he’s a good hitter with surprising power. Our player development guys are champing at the bit to get ahold of him.”
