Dodgers-Rockies postponed due to rain

DENVER -- After Friday night's game was played in a downpour, the Rockies were persuaded by the National Weather Service's winter storm warning to postpone Saturday night's game with the Dodgers before the gates even opened at Coors Field.

Clayton Kershaw will instead make his fourth attempt at career win No. 100 on Sunday, if the grounds crew can clear the overnight snow expected to fall. No makeup date for the rainout was announced, but the Dodgers were told a doubleheader on June 1 is being considered.

Manager Don Mattingly said Zack Greinke will start Monday night's homestand opener, but sounded like he still could recall a fifth starter for Tuesday night. Mike Bolsinger is the leading candidate. Otherwise, Carlos Frias would pitch on regular rest.

Kershaw, a creature of extreme habit in terms of game preparation, responded to the rainout news by repeating his Friday routine.

With significant overnight snow in the forecast, the NWS is calling for dry weather Sunday, but temperatures in the mid-30s at game time. This was the fourth rainout in Colorado this year, the third this week.

"I haven't pitched in real cold weather in a long time," said Kershaw, a native Texan. "Probably the last time was my first game with Midland in 2007. Pitched against Brett."

That would be Brett Anderson, now his teammate, who provided details of his first professional start, which he remembered well.

"It was in South Bend, Indiana," he said. "Clayton went 2 2/3, walked six. I went five, gave up four earned runs, no decision. We lost."
