What to know ahead of Dodgers' first Spring Breakout
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- As the Dodgers travel to Seoul, South Korea to get their season underway in the Opening Series against the Padres, fans in the United States will still get a chance to watch some future stars play in exciting games.
Major League Baseball is holding a four-day event in mid-March called “Spring Breakout.” Every organization will field a team of its top 20-25 prospects. Each team will play an exhibition against another team’s top prospects.
For the Dodgers’ prospects, they’ll travel to Tempe, Ariz., for a meeting against the Angels on March 16 at Tempe Diablo Stadium at 4:10 p.m. PT.
MLB announced some new details last week regarding its Spring Breakout event, including:
• The league will carry at least 10 Spring Breakout games live without blackouts on digital platforms, including MLB.com.
• MLB Network will air five games live.
• Rosters will be revealed during a March 7 episode of MLB Tonight at 8 a.m. PT.
• Tickets for all games can be found here and are on sale now.
While the big league club has a lot of talent, Los Angeles has also done a solid job of building one of the most respected farm systems in the game. Some top prospects such as Gavin Stone (Dodgers No. 4), Landon Knack (No. 9), Kyle Hurt (No. 11) and Hunter Feduccia (No. 29) will probably be on the taxi squad for the Dodgers’ two games against the Padres in South Korea.
But the Dodgers should still be well represented in the prospect version of the Freeway Series. Catchers Dalton Rushing (Dodgers No. 1) and Diego Cartaya (No. 2) will likely be featured in the game. Outfield prospects Andy Pages (No. 6) and Josue De Paula (No. 7) would also make a lot of sense on the roster.
