LA love: Dodgers visit Lakers with World Series trophy
There were some special guests in attendance during Friday night’s NBA matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers at Crypto.com Arena, and they brought some special hardware along with them.
Five members of the World Series champion Dodgers -- Mookie Betts, Jack Flaherty, Freddie Freeman, Brusdar Graterol and Chris Taylor -- were honored on the court as they showed off the Commissioner’s Trophy following their five-game victory over the Yankees in the Fall Classic last month.
Prior to the game, they were greeted by superstar LeBron James, who himself knows a thing or two about winning championships with four NBA titles to his name, the most recent coming with the Lakers in 2020.
The Lakers are historically one of the most successful NBA franchises, with 17 world championship banners hanging in the rafters. The Dodgers have a rich history of their own in baseball, and their latest title is the eighth in franchise history and seventh since moving to Los Angeles in 1958.
The intersection of the two franchises on Friday underscored the legendary sports pedigree of a city that has always been known for its constellation of stars.
