Dodgers recall Sadler, place Floro on IL
LOS ANGELES -– The Dodgers continued their bullpen shuffle on Friday, placing Dylan Floro on the 10-day injured list with neck inflammation and recalling Casey Sadler for the second time this week.
Manager Dave Roberts attributed Floro’s injury in part to the “crazy” trip from which the Dodgers just returned, but he acknowledged that the condition might also have contributed to Floro’s recent inconsistency.
Floro didn’t allow a run in 13 March/April appearances, but his ERA since then is 6.65. He was charged with one run in one-third of an inning on Thursday in Philadelphia. It is Floro’s first career trip to the injured list.
“I don’t know if he kept it quiet for a little bit,” said Roberts. “Hopefully, it’s a short-term thing. Dylan knows he hasn’t thrown the baseball as consistently as he did the first month.”
Sadler pitched for the Dodgers on Wednesday night and was optioned on Thursday when the club recalled Caleb Ferguson. Sadler flew to his Tampa home, then was recalled and flew to Los Angeles.
The Dodgers used five relievers in each of the past two games, so Roberts said Kenta Maeda would likely pitch one inning of relief Friday night and is the probable starter for Tuesday night. Maeda pitched only two innings in Wednesday night’s start in Philadelphia and did not return after a lengthy rain delay.
With no day off after the trip back from Philadelphia, Roberts canceled batting practice on Friday before the Dodgers' game against the Marlins to adjust to jet lag. Max Muncy got the day off on Friday, and Roberts said Cody Bellinger probably would not start on Sunday.
