LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers have juggled their starting rotation, pushing back Alex Wood from his scheduled start on Sunday against San Diego to Wednesday in Texas, with Hyun-Jin Ryu starting Sunday.
Manager Dave Roberts said the motivation was to provide better matchups. That will line up Rich Hill, Clayton Kershaw, Ryu and Walker Buehler to start against Arizona in a four-game series at home next week. Buehler will remain the probable starter for Tuesday's opener against Texas.

"We just felt we like the matchups," said manager Dave Roberts. "Gives us the best chance to win."
Stripling set for return
Thomas Stripling is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday in his native Texas after throwing a pain-free two-inning simulated game on Saturday.
Stripling faced hitters Enrique Hernandez, Chase Utley and Austin Barnes. When his 35-pitch session was done, Tyler Toffoli of the Los Angeles Kings stood in for a simulated at-bat. Toffoli and teammates Nick Thompson, Alex Martinez and Peter Budaj worked out with the club as part of Kings Night.

Stripling opened the season in the bullpen so efficiently (0.59 ERA in 11 appearances) he was called on to spot start when the rotation was slammed by injuries. He started just as well and was rewarded with a first All-Star berth.
Stripling was headed back to the bullpen with Ryu's return to the rotation when Stripling suffered lower back pain and was placed on the disabled list August 15.
"He's done it before and had success," said manager Dave Roberts. "Ross is a person I trust in big spots. To get him back on our roster is a huge boost."
Worth noting
• Joc Pederson won't start until Tuesday, Roberts said, because of a bruise and slight strain of his left knee sustained while fouling off a pitch on Wednesday night. As a result, Player Page for Max Muncy was batting leadoff on Saturday night. Pederson will be limited to pinch-hitting this weekend.

• In a pair of procedural moves, the Dodgers took Julio Urias off the disabled list and optioned him to Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga and transferred Josh Fields to the 60-day disabled list. Urias is healed from last year's shoulder surgery and Fields has been out with shoulder inflammation. Both have been on rehab assignments. Urias, who has allowed a home run in each of his last three appearances, is expected to be activated on or around Sept. 1, with Fields later in September.
Daniel Hudson, placed on the disabled list Friday night, had a recurrence of forearm stiffness. He's already had two Tommy John operations.
• Diego Cartaya, the 16-year-old Venezuelan catcher the Dodgers signed for $2.5 million, worked out with the club on Saturday. Cartaya is already 6-foot-2. He's been at the team's Dominican Republic academy and will report to Arizona for Instructional League.
• Roberts' 13-year-old daughter, Emme, is singing the national anthem before Saturday night's game.
