D-backs award Adrian Del Castillo and Spencer Giesting with monthly honors

The Arizona Diamondbacks named Triple-A Reno C Adrian Del Castillo and High-A Hillsboro LHP Spencer Giesting the organization’s Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for May.

ADRIAN DEL CASTILLO

  • Hit .359 (37-for-103)/1.053 OPS with 10 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, 17 RBI, 8 walks, 2 hit-by-pitches and 20 runs scored while reaching safely in 22 of 26 games with the Aces.
  • Ranked among Triple-A hitters in total bases (1st, 66), extra-base hits (T-1st, 17), hits (2nd, 37), doubles (T-2nd, 10), batting average (5th, .359), OPS (T-7th, 1.053) and slugging percentage (10th, .641).
  • Named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Month for May.
  • In 9 home games, batted .561 (23-for-41)/1.624 OPS with 8 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 9 RBI, 3 walks, 1 hit-by-pitch and 13 runs scored.
  • Recorded 13 multi-hit games, including 6 straight from May 5-12.
  • Owned a 6-game hitting streak from May 5-12, batting .519 (14-for-27) with, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 1 walk, 1 hit-by-pitch and 7 runs scored).
  • Hit .365 (31-for-85)/1.037 OPS vs. righties and .333 (6-for-18)/1.131 OPS vs. lefties.
  • Signed as the D-backs’ Competitive Balance-B selection in the 2021 Draft out of University of Miami.

SPENCER GIESTING

  • Went 3-1 with a 1.41 ERA (7 R-5 ER in 32.10 IP), .167 opponent average (19-for-114), 7 walks and 40 strikeouts in 5 starts (4 quality) with the Hops.
  • Ranked among High-A pitchers in strikeouts (1st, 40), innings pitched (3rd, 32.0), WHIP (5th, 0.81), opponent average (T-6th, .167) and ERA (7th, 1.41).
  • In 3 home starts, went 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA (4 R-2 ER in 20.0 IP), .181 opponent average (13-for-72), 0.80 WHIP, 3 walks and 27 strikeouts.
  • Struck out a career-high 13 batters on May 22 vs. Vancouver.
  • Posted back-to-back 7.0 inning scoreless outings on May 15 @ Tri-City (2 H, 1 BB, 9 K) and May 22 vs. Vancouver (3 H, 1 BB, 13 K).
  • Allowed just 1 home run (122 BF).
  • Signed as the D-backs’ 11th-round selection in the 2022 Draft out of UNC Charlotte.
