The Mets scored 12 runs in an inning and it was as ridiculous as you'd expect
The Mets picked up another win on Friday, bringing their record to 14-7 on the campaign -- but this wasn't any ordinary win over the Giants.
No, no. The thought of a "regular" win was far too boring for the Metropolitans on Friday, so instead they scored 12 runs in the third inning. Twelve. 12. A dozen. One less than a baker's dozen.
The outburst came at the peril of the Giants' Jake Peavy and reliever Mike Broadway, who didn't have a very fun experience on the mound that inning.
Here's a quick GIF of all the action:
Here's how it went down in chronological order:
Curtis Granderson: walk.
David Wright: walk.
Michael Conforto: RBI double, 1-0 Mets.
Yoenis Cespedes: two-run single, 3-0 Mets.
Lucas Duda: walk.
Neil Walker: RBI double, 4-0 Mets.
(Mike Broadway replaces Peavy).
Asdrubal Cabrera: two-run double, 6-0 Mets.
Kevin Plawecki: walk.
Steven Matz: strikeout (one out).
Curtis Granderson: RBI single, 7-0 Mets.
David Wright: single (bases loaded).
Michael Conforto: RBI single, 8-0 Mets.
Yoenis Cespedes: grand slam, 12-0 Mets.
Lucas Duda: groundout (two outs).
Neil Walker: groundout (three outs).
And … exhale. That was a lot of activity.
A standing ovation as the third out is made. The #Mets third:

Here's a Statcast breakdown of Cespedes' grand slam:
MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reported that this was the largest single-inning offensive outburst by the Mets in franchise history, eclipsing an 11-run effort by the 2006 team.
Cabrera provided DiComo with a choice quote after the game, when asked to sum up the madness:
"Everybody hit a double," said Asdrubal Cabrera, who thankfully is not in charge of Gameday. “Double, double, double, double, double.”

It was a pretty eventful evening at Citi Field.
