Zack Morris from 'Saved by the Bell' signs on to star in FOX's female pitcher drama
It's been 85 years since Jackie Mitchell cemented her status as a baseball legend when she reportedly struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in an exhibition game, but it looks like she's about to get some company in the form of a fictional character at the center of a forthcoming baseball drama from FOX.
The network is inching closer to making its drama about the first female MLB player a reality and it's convinced Zack Morris from "Saved by the Bell" to hop on board. Actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar has reportedly signed on to star as the male lead in "Pitch," in which he'll play the Crash Davis character to Kylie Bunbury's Nuke LaLoosh.
Except in "Pitch" -- according to Deadline -- Crash and the Nuke are in love:
Gosselaar will play Mike Lawson, a handsome, charming, self-assured future Hall of Fame MLB catcher. A ladies' man off the field and a leader on it, Mike's not sure what to do with the undeniable spark between him and Ginny. Skeptical of her at first, he still can't help but show her the ropes. Over time, they'll bring new meaning to the term, "team chemistry."
Dan Fogelman and Rick Singer are penning the script, so consider this our official plea that they avoid a storyline that has the team start a career in pop music that tragically leads them to glittered parachute pants:
