Independent league manager protests call by picking up third base and handing it to a young fan

Over the years, managers have come up with plenty of ways to mess with the playing field after an ejection. You could treat the resin bag like deodorant, or even confiscate first base and hide it in your dugout.
But really, while we do appreciate the theatrics, aren't all those methods just a waste of a potential souvenir? Butch Hobson, manager of the Chicago Dogs of the independent American Association, thinks so, and he's out to show skippers everywhere that there's a better way. Hobson disagreed with a call at third base during Wednesday's game against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, and rather than just steal the bag for himself, he stole it ... and gave it to a young fan who happened to be walking by:

Alas, the Redhawks didn't have an extra base on hand, so a member of the grounds crew had to retrieve the base and put it back on the field. Points for fan engagement, though.
