The Braves' newest MiLB affiliate named themselves the Florida Fire Frogs

While the great eye of baseball is fixed on the 350-mile stretch between Cleveland and Chicago, there is important news out of Kissimmee, Fla.: Minor League Baseball's newest team is the Braves' Class A affiliate, henceforth known as the Florida Fire Frogs.
As Ben Hill reports, the Fire Frogs come to us by way of the Brevard County Manatees, who are relocating this offseason to Kissimmee. The team followed in the footsteps of such teams as the Hartford Yard Goats and Savanah Bananas and fielded fan responses to come up with a team name fitting its new home. Ultimately, the Fire Frogs won a fan vote that featured "Rodeo Clowns" and "Sorcerers," but the real upset is that they weren't simply named the Florida Braves.

But the Fire Frogs name didn't just leap out of nowhere. According to Hill, "that the coqui frog is of Puerto Rican origin is no coincidence, as the greater Kissimmee area is home to a large percentage of people who are of Puerto Rico heritage."
And if you're wondering what Fire Frogs could have to do with baseball -- well, frogs like to snag (pop) flies, right?
