Forever Cub: David Ross returned to Wrigley to toss a ceremonial first pitch and receive his ring

The Cubs received a material reminder of their thrilling World Series victory on Wednesday night, with a lavish pregame ceremony at Wrigley Field before their 2-0 loss to the Dodgers

This was the second in a two-part series of World Series-related events this week, and Wednesday's featured a special guest: David Ross, the veteran catcher/team leader who rode off into the sunset after Game 7.
Ross, whose "Dancing with the Stars" commitments kept him from being there in person for the banner raising, was introduced as "the greatest dancer in the world" when he received his ring on Wednesday:

And, as seen atop this post, he triumphantly took the mound and delivered a strike to his forme battery mate, Jon Lester (who was obviously enjoying this reunion).

Not being an active player anymore means Ross has special priveleges the current Cubs do not -- namely, the ability to go on social media immediately after on-field ceremonies and share images of his rather amazing new piece of jewelry:

And who do you suppose led the crowd in "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch? If you guessed Ross, you'd be right.

Big night.
