David Ortiz was made an honorary captain and led the Patriots onto the field on Sunday

Boston sports teams stick together. Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has cranked some dingers over the Green Monster. While the Celtics were trying to lure Kevin Durant to the team over the offseason, David Ortiz and Tom Brady were called into help.

At the Patriots home opener on Sunday, and before the Red Sox take on the Yankees in the Sunday night game, Ortiz was there -- in his customary No. 34 no less. He was then honored with a tribute video:

Finally, he got to lead the team onto the field as an honorary team captain. Only difference: He was now wearing Tom Brady's No. 12.

With Ortiz retiring from baseball at the end of the year, we can only hope that this is the start of his Patriots career. He could at least star on special teams, right?
