Here's a look at Sunday's top Minor League performers from each team's Top 30 Prospects list:
Mariners: Jarred Kelenic, OF (MLB No. 4), Triple-A Tacoma
Kelenic went 2-for-4 with a homer, double, walk and two runs scored on Sunday, bringing his Triple-A slash line to .299/.373/.598 on the season. Marlins: Max Meyer, RHP (MLB No. 20), Double-A Pensacola
The third overall pick in the 2020 Draft, Meyer tossed another solid start, striking out four over five scoreless frames. It wasn’t Meyer’s best start, as he gave up four hits and walked three, but he was able to keep runs off the board. It was his seventh scoreless outing through 11 starts this year, and the righty’s ERA now sits at 1.67 this season with 54 strikeouts in 54 innings. Marlins prospect stats »
Cubs: Brennen Davis, OF (MLB No. 45), Double-A Tennessee
Davis homered, doubled, walked and drove in two runs in his first multi-hit effort since June 19 to help lift Tennessee. The 21-year-old brought the Smokies’ offense to life with a solo homer in the fourth before tying the game with an RBI double in the seventh. Davis has hit safely in four of his last five games after enduring a 3-for-21 stretch from June 20-26. Overall, the 2018 second-round Draft pick is batting .264/.369/.463 with 14 extra-base hits and 13 RBIs in 35 games across two levels. Cubs prospect stats »
Brewers: Garrett Mitchell, OF (MLB No. 49), High-A Wisconsin
Zavier Warren, C (No. 11), Low-A Carolina
Hayden Cantrelle, SS (No. 16), High-A Wisconsin
Both Mitchell and Cantrelle had banner nights for Wisconsin in their 16-6 rout of Beloit. Mitchell, the Brewers’ No. 1 prospect, drove in a season-high six runs on a 4-for-6 night at the plate that included two home runs (his first multihomer game) and two singles. After crushing a two-run shot as part of a four-run first, Mitchell singled to lead off the fourth inning for Wisconsin and eventually came around to smack a grand slam nine batters later as part of an eight-run inning. After a career night, Mitchell is being rewarded with a promotion to Double-A.
Cantrelle, a 2020 fifth-rounder, also had his first career multihomer game, going yard in the first and the third and singling in two in the ninth to drive in a season-high five runs. Cantrelle finished the night going 3-for-6 at the plate.
Warren did it all at the plate on Sunday, crushing his ninth home run of the year, doubling, drawing three walks and scoring three runs in Carolina’s 11-4 victory. The 92nd overall pick in the 2020 Draft, Warren has been an on-base machine this season, boasting a .416 OBP with 25 walks through 31 games thus far. Astros: Korey Lee, C (No. 5), Double-A Corpus Christi
A step up the ladder to Double-A has done nothing to slow Lee down. The 22-year-old opened the scoring with a two-run double during Corpus Christi’s five-run opening frame and capped his three-hit performance with a solo homer, his 10th of the season and seventh in 17 games with the Hooks. Falling a triple short of the cycle, Lee managed his fourth game with three or more hits and fifth with three or more RBIs. Padres: Tucupita Marcano, OF (No. 5), Triple-A El Paso
Marcano made his presence felt in the box on Sunday, coming within a triple of hitting for the cycle during his fifth three-hit game of the season. The 21-year-old slugged the third pitch of the game out of the yard for his fifth home run and added his seventh double and a single before the night was out. Although he struggled during his stay in the Majors, Marcano has had little trouble with Triple-A pitching, batting .306 with an .896 OPS, 22 RBIs and 21 runs in 33 games. Padres prospect stats »
Dodgers: Ryan Pepiot, RHP (No. 7), Double-A Tulsa
In what was one of the more dominant pitching performances in the Minors this season, Pepiot took a perfect game into the eighth inning before walking the leadoff batter and being lifted with the no-hitter still intact. The 23-year-old finished with a career-high 11 strikeouts and was lifted after tossing 77 pitches, 56 for strikes. Pepiot allowed one hit over six scoreless frames on June 23 and twirled five no-hit innings two starts prior on June 12. His ERA shrank to 1.73 and his WHIP fell to 0.83 in 10 outings (nine starts) spanning 41 2/3 innings. Dodgers prospect stats »
Yankees: Luis Medina, RHP (No. 7), Double-A Somerset
Medina tossed his best outing in nearly two months, issuing just one walk and striking out eight over five scoreless frames of four-hit ball. It was Medina’s first scoreless outing since May 9, where he went five innings and gave up one hit. The 22-year-old now owns a 5.21 ERA in Double-A and has struck out 28 batters in 19 innings. Mets: Mark Vientos, LF (No. 8), Double-A Binghamton
A torrid June seems to be carrying over into July for Vientos, who continued to hammer the baseball at a Ruthian clip. The 21-year-old homered for the 10th time in 17 games and fell a triple shy of the cycle while driving in four of Binghamton’s five runs Sunday. Vientos entered June with a .231/.279/.410 slash line but has batted .333 with 10 of his 13 homers and 24 of his 36 RBIs. Rockies: Elehuris Montero, 3B (No. 9), Double-A Hartford
Montero enjoyed one of the best offensive performances of his career on Sunday, establishing personal best with four hits and equaling his career high with three RBIs. The 22-year-old delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the fifth inning and added to Hartford’s lead with his ninth home run in the seventh. Batting .193 on June 12, Elehuris has gone 22-for-61 (.361) since to bring his slash line up to .245/.340/.451 with 19 extra-base hits and 34 RBIs in 52 games. Rockies prospect stats »
Reds: Graham Ashcraft, RHP (No. 18), Double-A Chattanooga
Ashcraft took a no-hitter in the seventh inning before yielding a leadoff single and with some help from his bullpen, will carry a streak of 43 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run into his next outing. The 23-year-old has also not allowed a run of any kind in 33 straight frames, lowering his ERA to 1.53 in 11 starts. Ashcraft walked three, struck out six and has yet to allow a run in his first three starts with Chattanooga. A sixth-round pick in the 2019 Draft, the Alabama native has surrendered two or fewer hits in six consecutive starts and is holding opponents to a .164 average while striking out 74 in 58 2/3 innings. Red Sox: Ronaldo Hernandez, C (No. 11), Double-A Portland
The 23-year-old from Colombia recorded his second three-hit game of the season in Game 1 of a doubleheader, including a two-run shot for his seventh home run of the year to help propel Portland to a 9-4 win. White Sox: Jose Rodriguez, SS (No. 14), Low-A Kannapolis
Rodriguez’s hot start to summer continued with his second three-hit performance in less than a week. The 20-year-old gave Kannapolis a five-run cushion when he connected on a three-run homer in the second inning, his sixth of the season and first since June 13. Rodriguez added a pair of doubles to his ledger on Sunday and is now batting .273/.314/.450 with 23 extra-base hits, 20 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. White Sox prospect stats »
Nationals: Israel Pineda, C (No. 15), High-A Wilmington
Pineda went yard twice for his second multihomer game of the season as he drove in three of Wilmington’s four runs on the day. With his two dingers on Sunday, the 21-year-old has now reached his career-high mark of seven home runs through 44 games this season -- he hit seven last year through 101 games. Braves: Jesse Franklin V, OF (No. 15), High-A Rome
The weather is heating up, and so is Franklin. The 2020 third-rounder (97th overall) has recorded three multihit games in four July contests, and he celebrated the 4th of July holiday by going 3-for-4 with a homer, double and four RBIs in Rome’s 9-4 win. Athletics: Colin Peluse, RHP (No. 27), High-A Lansing
Peluse put together his best overall outing of the season on Sunday, allowing an unearned run in six innings. The right-hander scattered five hits and a walk while striking out six. Peluse ended June with a 5.40 ERA, but he has pitched better in recent weeks. The right-hander has surrendered five earned runs in his last three starts spanning 16 innings, good for a 2.81 ERA.
