March 16th, 2022
ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves today signed RHP Tyler Thornburg to a non-guaranteed, one-year major-league contract worth $900,000. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club placed RHP Kirby Yates on the 60-day injured list.
Thornburg, 33, last pitched in the majors for Cincinnati during the 2020 season, appearing in seven games before landing on the injured list with a right elbow sprain. He underwent Tommy John surgery in September of that year, which forced him to miss the 2021 season.
The 5-foot-11, 191-pound native of Houston, TX, has appeared in 192 career games over eight major league seasons with Milwaukee, Boston and the Reds. He enjoyed his best season in 2016 with Milwaukee, going 8-5 with a 2.15 ERA (16 ER/67.0 IP) in 67 games.
