Hank Aaron All-Star School

Each year since 2019, the Atlanta Braves have “adopted” an Atlanta Public School (APS) and met some of the school’s most crucial needs over the course of the year, including support for teachers and classrooms, capital projects improving the school facilities or grounds, and special experiences for students. In 2022, we expanded the Hank Aaron All-Star School program to also include an adopted school from the Cobb County School District (CCSD). Projects at each school are unique and dependent on the specific needs of the teachers, students, and community.

New Hank Aaron All-Star Schools for the upcoming school year are announced during Hank Aaron Week. Our 2023-24 schools are Booker T. Washington High School (APS), Betty Gray Middle School (CCSD) and Lindley Middle School (CCSD).

2023-24 Hank Aaron All-Star Schools

APS: Booker T. Washington High School

CCSD: Betty Gray Middle School and Lindley Middle School

2022-23 Hank Aaron All-Star Schools

APS: South Atlanta High School

Projects included:

  • Hosting a Teacher’s Appreciation Lunch to kick off the partnership
  • Sponsoring Band Trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Fourth of July parade
  • Providing meals throughout the year for teachers and staff
  • Sponsoring new cheer uniforms for varsity and JV cheerleading teams
  • Providing a new refrigerator and freezer for their teacher’s lounge

CCSD: Green Acres Elementary School

Projects included:

  • Hosting a Lead-Off Welcome Celebration for the entire school
  • Creating a wellness room for the teachers
  • Sponsoring a Level Up Celebration for students who have demonstrated exceptional growth
  • Providing meals throughout the year for teachers and staff
  • Hosting a Day of Service for Braves front office staff to volunteer around the school
  • Providing English classes and job training for families

2021-22 Hank Aaron All-Star School

APS: Henry Louis "Hank” Aaron New Beginnings Academy

Projects included:

  • Sponsoring the school’s renaming ceremony with the Aaron family
  • Creating and fully stocking a pantry for the students with a new industrial refrigerator and freezer for the World Series Legacy Project
  • Supplying the school with two new washers and dryers to keep the students uniforms clean
  • Providing lunches for the staff and students
  • Renovating the teachers’ lounge, including all new appliances
  • Revitalizing the school’s garden, including new patio furniture and a tool shed
  • Hosting two food drives for parents and the Hammond Park community
  • Donating clothing to prepare parents who’ve completed their GED program for job interviews
  • Hiring a local artist to paint a mural in the school’s entrance in honor of Hank Aaron

2020-21 Hank Aaron All-Star School

APS: Frederick Douglass High School

Projects included:

  • Providing incentives to encourage teachers and staff
  • Hosting a food drive and coat drive alongside The Players Alliance
  • Improving the school’s baseball field and facilities

2019-20 Hank Aaron All-Star School

APS: KIPP Woodson Park Academy

Projects included:

  • Painting a Hank Aaron-inspired mural in the school’s multipurpose room/gymnasium
  • Beautifying the school courtyard and teacher breakroom
  • Hosting faculty and staff at an Atlanta Braves home game as part of Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Participating in the school’s Read Across America Day, reading Dr. Seuss books to classrooms
  • Purchasing a holiday gift for each student in the school as part of the Braves Foundation’s annual Season of Giving
  • Hosting food drives for parents and families in the Woodson Park community during the COVID-19 pandemic
