A’s recall RHP Boyle from Las Vegas; designate RHP Bielak for assignment
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher Joe Boyle from Triple-A Las Vegas and designated right-handed pitcher Brandon Bielak for assignment, the club announced today.
Boyle joins the A’s for the third time this year and is 3-6 with a 7.12 ERA and .744 opponents OPS in 11 games, including 10 starts. He has held the opposition to a .239 batting average but has walked 36 batters in 43.0 innings for a .382 opponents on-base percentage. The 25-year-old right-hander pitched three times for Las Vegas following his most recent option on Sept. 4, allowing two runs on five hits and five walks while striking out nine in 7.1 innings. Boyle is 1-3 with a 5.12 ERA in 15 games, including 13 starts, overall for the Aviators.
Bielak was selected from Las Vegas on Sept. 8 for his second stint with the A’s and allowed four runs on eight hits and five walks in 6.2 innings over three relief appearances. He has a 4.38 ERA in six outings with Oakland overall and is 1-0 with a 5.16 ERA in 16 relief appearances in the majors this year. Bielak is also 3-3 with a 6.08 ERA in 16 games, including 13 starts, with the Aviators.
