Nearly two decades after he was following his father around big league clubhouses as a toddler, Jackson Holliday is set to follow in his footsteps as a Major Leaguer.

Holliday, MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 overall prospect and the son of former MLB outfielder Matt Holliday, is on the verge of making his big league debut after being called up by the Orioles on Wednesday.

His debut will come almost 20 years to the day of Matt’s first game with the Rockies on April 16, 2004, when Jackson was just four months old.

Now 20 years old, Jackson will wear No. 7, the same number his father wore during his time with the Cardinals from 2009-16. He’ll become the first O’s player to wear the number since Billy Ripken in 1988.

The elder Holliday played in the Majors for 15 years from 2004-2018, making appearances with the A’s and Yankees in addition to the Rockies and Cardinals. In that time, he made seven All-Star teams, earned four Silver Slugger Awards and won a World Series title with St. Louis in 2011.

Jackson, the oldest of Matt’s four children (Ethan, Matt’s second-born, is the No. 1-ranked player in the 2025 Draft class) was a constant presence around his father along the way, getting to experience the big leagues long before becoming the top overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.
