A's turn to Bassitt in ALDS G1, Manaea in G2
Chris Bassitt will start Game 1 of Oakland's American League Division Series matchup with the Astros on Monday at Dodger Stadium. The A's will then call on Sean Manaea for Game 2.
The 31-year-old Bassitt continued his breakout season with a stellar performance in Game 2 of the Athletics' Wild Card Series victory over the White Sox. Bassitt, who finished the regular season with a 2.29 ERA, held Chicago to one run over seven innings while striking out five.
Bassitt has been particularly dominant over the past month, going 4-0 with a 0.53 ERA in five outings since the start of September. That stretch started with seven scoreless innings against the Astros in a Sept. 7 victory.
Manaea, meanwhile, did not pitch in the Wild Card Series following an up-and-down regular season. He finished with a 4.50 ERA in 11 starts, though he posted a 3.04 ERA in four September outings. That stretch included perhaps his best performance of the season in a Sept. 10 victory against Houston. Manaea held the Astros to one run off just two hits while tossing a season-high seven innings.
