OAKLAND -- The coaching staff working under new A’s manager Mark Kotsay has been finalized for the upcoming 2022 season, and it features a few notable changes.

Headlining the list of new additions announced by the A’s on Friday was the hiring of Brad Ausmus, who will work as Kotsay's right-hand man after he was tabbed Oakland’s new bench coach.

A former All-Star catcher, who spent 18 seasons in the Major Leagues before transitioning to coaching following retirement, Ausmus built up a combined record of 386-422 across five seasons as manager of the Tigers (2014-17) and Angels ('19). The three-time Gold Glover adds some experience alongside Kotsay, who is entering his managerial debut after his official hiring to replace departed longtime skipper Bob Melvin was announced last month.

Ausmus replaces former A's bench coach Ryan Christenson, who has assumed the same position under Melvin with the Padres.

Here’s a breakdown of the rest of the coaching changes:

• Tommy Everidge -- hitting coach (previously: Triple-A Las Vegas hitting coach)

• Chris Cron -- assistant hitting coach (previously: D-backs Minor League field coordinator)

• Darren Bush -- third base/run prevention coach (previously: A's hitting coach)

• Eric Martins -- first base/infield coach (previously: A's assistant hitting coach)

• Mike Aldrete -- quality control coach (previously: A's first-base coach)

A’s pitching coach Scott Emerson and bullpen coach Marcus Jensen will both remain in their roles from last season.

Everidge, who was drafted by the A’s in 2004, was once a promising prospect in the system and saw Major League action with Oakland in '09, batting .224 with two homers in 24 games. Since '14, he’s worked his way up the organization’s coaching ladder as a hitting coach for Short-Season Vermont ('14-15), High-A Stockton ('16-17) and Double-A Midland ('18-20). His work with hitters at Triple-A Las Vegas last season stood out, as the Aviators ranked third in team batting average (.277) and on-base percentage (.355) and second in OPS (.836) among Triple-A West clubs.

Cron brings 20 years of Minor League managing experience he’s built up over his time with the D-backs and White Sox. Prior to his role as a field coordinator last year, he served as manager for Triple-A Reno in 2019 and was set to continue in that role in '20 before the Minor League season was canceled. Chris is the father of big leaguers C.J. and Kevin Cron.
