Assistant General Manager
Pete Putila (pronounced puh-TELL-uh) enters his 12th season with the Astros and his second as assistant general manager. In his role, Pete is involved with all aspects of baseball operations with a focus on player development, amateur scouting, international scouting, and sports medicine & performance.
Pete joined the Astros organization in 2011 as a baseball operations intern. His responsibilities included assisting with administration across baseball operations, amateur scouting, pro scouting and player development. He was hired full-time to the position of baseball operations assistant in September of 2011 where his duties were expanded to include Major League advance scouting support.
In 2013, he was promoted to baseball operations coordinator where he began working in conjunction with decision sciences to integrate data, research and technology into player development processes across the Major and minor league levels. He also traveled with the Major League team in 2014 and 2015, conducting replay review.
In 2015, he was promoted to assistant director of minor league operations where he assisted in all aspects of Major and minor league player development and minor league operations. A year later in 2016 he was promoted to director of player development where he oversaw Major and minor league player development while assisting with the integration of scouting technology.
Pete is a graduate of West Virginia University where he received his bachelor’s degree in sport management and served as the baseball team’s student manager. A native of Carmichaels, Pa., Pete and his fiancé Amethyst currently reside in Houston.
