HOUSTON, Texas – The Astros Golf Foundation hosted media day for the 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open on Monday morning at Memorial Park Golf Course.

The day consisted of remarks from Giles Kibbe, President of the Astros Golf Foundation and Texas Children’s CEO, Mark A. Wallace, along with a pre-recorded interview with reigning Texas Children’s Houston Open champion, Tony Finau. Also in attendance was Director Kenneth Allen from the City of Houston Parks and Recs Department.

The 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open tournament field was discussed and a new addition to the field was announced, Sahith Theegala, who resides in Houston and is ranked 21st in the OWGR rankings. He joins the No. 1 player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndam Clark and reigning champion Tony Finau as previously announced players highlighting the field.

Changes to Memorial Park Golf Course in 2024 were also announced, including a major renovation to hole 17. The 17 green was moved back 40 yards, so that when a short tee is played, players will be able to drive the ball and bounce it up onto the green. The green is tougher to hit and there’s water on the right, so there is a great risk/reward hole as part of the finish. There were also some smaller adjustments on holes 9 and 15 as the contours of the greens were softened.

The signature hole of the Texas Children’s Houston Open, hole 15, is back in 2024. Fans enjoy it and it’s becoming the place to be during the tournament with a great atmosphere and environment.

The hospitality venues throughout the course will be expanded in 2024 to handle larger crowds. New sponsor Daniel Energy will bring the Daniel Energy Barbeque Cookoff to the Texas Children’s Houston Open in 2024 on No. 18 fairway, which will add a great new venue to the event. A preview of their barbeque was served to media in attendance at the event.

Title sponsor Texas Children’s will provide the Texas Children’s Family Fun Zone, located at hole 17. This will be an entertaining space for parents to show their kids why golf is a family friendly environment. They’ll play miniature golf, have kid-sized golf cart photos, a golf-themed coloring wall and multiball, which is a mixed-reality gaming platform for various ages. There will also be the Texas Children’s Bunker Challenge, which will allow for fans to test their golf skills like a pro, which will be located at the entrance to the course.

With the tournament happening during opening week for Major League Baseball, the Tailgate Zone at Memorial Park will provide big-screen TV to have watch parties for the Astros out on the course, so fans can catch all the golf and baseball action all week long.

The Texas Children’s Houston Open is all about raising money for charity, and over the past four years, over $11 million has been raised. That money has gone to the beneficiaries of the City of Houston, Memorial Park Conservancy, the First Tee of Greater Houston and numerous other local charities.

General Admission tickets are now available for purchase, granting access to anywhere on the grounds that is open to the public. Fans can enjoy tournament viewing across all 18 holes, including several bleacher seating areas. Pick Your Day general admission tickets are available, with prices that vary from $45 to $55.

The Venue Hopper daily pass is also available, which includes access to three premium venues at the most exciting holes on the course, plus all-inclusive food and non-alcoholic drinks for $159.
