Astros prospect Randy Cesar set a new Texas League record by hitting safely in his 38th consecutive game for Double-A Corpus Christi on Thursday night against Frisco.

The 23-year-old infielder doubled on the first pitch he saw from right-hander Tyler Wagner to break the mark of 37 games set by Bobby Trevino of the El Paso Sun Kings in 1969. In all, Cesar went 3-for-4 with a pair of singles to go along with the double. During the streak, he's hitting .381 with 10 doubles, a triple and seven home runs.
"Of course. I feel very proud," Cesar told MiLB.com.

On the season, his first at the Double-A level, Cesar is slashing .355/.393/.533 with a career-high eight home runs in 60 games.
"This is a big day for him and I'm happy for him," Hooks manager Omar Lopez said. "Because it's not easy. It seems like it could be easy but it's not. And he's been having a tremendous year, and hopefully he can carry out the rest of the season like that."

Cesar signed with the Astros out of the Dominican Republic for $100,000 back in 2011. However, he didn't debut in the United States until 2014. 
"It was a long wait, but I am working really hard and I'm not going to stop now," Cesar said. "I changed my mentality. I learned to stay strong, that was one thing I learned from my dad, not to take the game into the next one."
