Astros add Garcia, remove Mayfield for ALDS

October 5th, 2020

The Astros had one change on their roster for the American League Division Series against the A’s from their Wild Card Series roster, adding rookie right-handed pitcher Luis Garcia and removing infielder Jack Mayfield, who didn’t play in the sweep of the Twins.

With the possibility of five games in five days at Dodger Stadium, the Astros will now have 13 pitchers to navigate their way through the A’s. Garcia, one of 10 pitchers to make their Major League debut for Houston this season, last pitched Sept. 27, when he threw one-third of a scoreless inning in relief. He had a 2.92 ERA in five regular-season games this year, including a Sept. 9 start against Oakland in which he tossed five scoreless innings.

The ALDS roster features eight players who have not appeared in a postseason game: right-handers Andre Scrubb, Cy Sneed and Garcia, left-hander Blake Taylor, catchers Dustin Garneau and Garrett Stubbs, infielder Abraham Toro and outfielder Chas McCormick.

Here is the Astros’ ALDS roster:

Pitchers (13): Luis Garcia, Zack Greinke, Josh James, Cristian Javier, Lance McCullers Jr., Enoli Paredes, Ryan Pressly, Brooks Raley, Andre Scrubb, Cy Sneed, Blake Taylor, Jose Urquidy, Framber Valdez.
