Sept. 29: OF (right thumb sprain) placed on 10-day injured list; RHP optioned to Triple-A Sacramento; RHP , OF recalled from Triple-A
Canha started in left field in Saturday afternoon's 6-5 win over the Cardinals, but he jammed his right thumb while attempting to dive back to second base on a pickoff attempt in the first inning. Canha hoped he would be available to play in Game 162 on Sunday, but he ended up finishing the season on the IL.

Canha, 35, batted .288 with a .705 OPS over 32 games after coming over from the playoff-bound Tigers at the July 30 Trade Deadline. The San Jose native will be eligible for free agency at the end of the season. The Giants recalled Matos to replace Canha on the active roster.

With San Francisco's bullpen in need of a fresh arm, the club also promoted McDonald, the Giants' No. 12 prospect per MLB Pipeline. McDonald, 23, logged a 4.40 ERA over 23 appearances (20 starts) across four Minor League levels this year. Roupp was sent down as a corresponding move after making his final start of the season on Friday.

Sept. 27: LHP scratched from Saturday's start vs. Cardinals
Snell was slated to start Saturday afternoon's game at Oracle Park, but the Giants made a late pitching change on Friday night, announcing that Tristan Beck would pitch instead. Snell finished the 2024 campaign with a 3.12 ERA over 20 starts this year, including a 1.23 mark in 14 outings since returning from the injured list on July 9. He is widely expected to opt out of the final year of his two-year, $62 million deal and become a free agent this offseason, creating some uncertainty about his future in San Francisco.

Sept. 27: LHP undergoes surgery to repair a torn labrum in left shoulder
Crawford, the Giants' No. 9 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is expected to miss 10-12 months after undergoing shoulder surgery, which was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Thursday. Crawford, 23, logged a 2.95 ERA over 14 appearances (one start) between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento this year, but he didn't pitch after landing on the injured list in mid-June. He's tallied only 37 1/3 innings on the mound since being selected by the Giants in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of UConn.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

LHP (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: 2025
Ray threw three innings in a live batting practice session in Arizona on Sept. 23, but manager Bob Melvin said the 32-year-old veteran isn't expected to make another start for the Giants before the end of the season.

"I don't see him pitching for us," Melvin said. "We just wanted to get him on the mound and pitch in a game and feel good about where he was. I don't think there's any reason to push that."

Ray grabbed the back of his left leg after delivering a pitch against the Mariners on Aug. 25 at T-Mobile Park. An MRI exam revealed a hamstring strain, prompting the Giants to place him on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 27, retroactive to Aug. 26. Ray also missed the first half of the season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. (Last updated: Sept. 23)

RHP (right shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: 2025
Hicks missed 18 games with the same shoulder injury before returning to make one relief appearance against the Padres on Sept. 14, when he gave up three runs on four hits over 1 1/3 innings. The 28-year-old right-hander attempted to play catch on Sept. 19, but his arm didn't respond as expected, prompting the Giants to place him back on the 15-day IL and effectively end his season.

Hicks, who signed a four-year, $44 million deal over the winter, recorded a 4.10 ERA over a career-high 109 2/3 innings across 29 appearances (20 starts) in his first season with the Giants. A longtime reliever, Hicks is expected to get another chance to return to San Francisco's starting rotation in 2025. (Last updated: Sept. 20)

LHP Kyle Harrison (left shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: 2025
An MRI on Sept. 5 revealed mild left shoulder inflammation, and the rookie was placed on the IL the following day. Considering where the season’s calendar is and that Harrison has thrown a career-high 124 1/3 innings, manager Bob Melvin said the lefty likely won’t pitch again this year. The 23-year-old ended his first full season in the big leagues with a 4.56 ERA over 24 starts for the Giants. (Last updated: Sept. 11)

60-DAY IL

C (left knee sprain)
Expected return: 2025
Murphy is continuing his rehab in San Francisco after he felt a pop in his knee after going down to try to block a wild pitch in the second inning of the Giants' 14-3 loss to the Phillies on May 4.

Murphy was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 5, and an MRI exam revealed a Grade 1-2 sprain. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 15 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for fellow backstop Curt Casali. Murphy visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on July 25 after experiencing inflammation behind his knee and in his hamstring. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left knee on July 30.

Signed to a two-year, $8.25 million deal in December, Murphy hit .118 with one home run over his first 13 games with the Giants. (Last updated: Sept. 10)

INF (right knee tendinitis)
Expected return: 2025
Flores will be out for the rest of the season, manager Bob Melvin announced on Aug. 6. The first baseman traveled to Los Angeles and underwent a Tenex procedure on his right knee with Dr. Steve Yoon on Aug. 6. He was placed on the injured list on July 25 (retroactive to July 24), after last appearing as a pinch-hitter on July 23 against the Dodgers. He had returned from the same injury on July 9. The Giants transferred him to the 60-day injured list on Aug. 16.

“He was fighting it all year and unfortunately, we're losing him for the rest of the year, which isn't ideal,” Melvin said. (Last updated: Aug. 17)

RHP (right elbow surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Winn is continuing his rehab in San Francisco after undergoing season-ending right elbow surgery in Los Angeles on July 29. Dr. Steven Shin performed an ulnar nerve transposition, which takes pressure off the nerve by moving it from the back of the elbow to the front. The procedure is expected to have a two-month recovery process, which should allow him to be ready to go by Spring Training 2025.

Winn last pitched for the Giants on June 20, when he gave up five runs over 2 2/3 innings against the Cardinals at Rickwood Field. The 26-year-old rookie ended up logging a 7.16 ERA over 12 starts in an injury-marred campaign for San Francisco. (Last updated: Aug. 5)

CF (left shoulder dislocation)
Expected return: 2025
Lee suffered a season-ending torn labrum in his left shoulder crashing into the center-field fence on May 12 and had surgery on June 4. The club considered the procedure a success and said the typical timeline for recovery is six months. (Last updated: June 4)
