The Detroit Tigers are committed to improving the quality of youth baseball and softball in Detroit and throughout Michigan. The Detroit Tigers Foundation aims to support all youth wishing to participate in baseball and softball by making every effort to reduce and/or eliminate the barriers associated with playing the game. By doing this we hope to ensure that every athlete has a positive and informative experience at all events.
Growing the Game
Proper equipment is critical to playing baseball and softball. Gloves For Kids is an important component in growing the game throughout the Detroit Tigers market by providing youth with the proper equipment to not only learn the game but also develop their skills.
The Detroit Tigers Foundation partnered with Easterseals MORC - Miracle League of Michigan and Fantasy Camp for Kids Foundation to present Baseball Fantasy Camp for Kids on September 13 in advance of the Tigers taking on the Baltimore Orioles. Players Spencer Torkelson and Kerry Carpenter joined 50 special needs children from Metro Detroit.
Miracle League of Michigan supports kids in multiple locations across the state to give them an opportunity to enjoy the game of baseball with volunteer assistants. This event was held at Easterseals Miracle League Field in Southfield, Michigan which is designed to ensure accessibility for all kids involved.
All event participants received a Detroit Tigers jersey and hat. Volunteers from Detroit Tigers front office, Easterseals MORC and Wayne State University were on hand to help participants have an enjoyable experience.
