2023 Roberto Clemente Award

Introducing the 2023 nominees for MLB's most prestigious individual honor

Roberto Clemente was born in Puerto Rico in 1934, and in his youth, he was a track and field star before turning his attention to baseball

Clemente would make his Major League debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1955 and enjoyed sustained success throughout his career A 15x All-Star and 2x World Series champion, he also became the 1st Latin American to collect 3,000 career hits, cementing his status as one of the greatest players in baseball history

Clemente spent much of his time during the offseason involved in charity work ... he was proud of his Puerto Rican heritage and stood up for minority rights Clemente died in a plane crash on Dec. 31, 1972, en route to bringing much-needed supplies to survivors of an earthquake in Nicaragua

Since 1973, the Roberto Clemente award annually recognizes the MLB player who best represents the game through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field Here are this year's nominees ➡️
