June 5, 2001

As part of a heralded group of prospects from Virginia, Wright became an instant fan favorite when the Mets selected him 38th overall in the 2001 Draft. The pick was compensation for losing Mike Hampton to free agency.

July 21, 2004

Requiring a little less than three years to climb through the Mets organization, Wright debuted in front of 30,227 fans at Shea Stadium. Though he went 0-for-4 that night against the Expos, Wright doubled off Zach Day a day later for his first career hit.

Aug. 9, 2005

A two-time Gold Glover, Wright made perhaps the most memorable play of his career during his first full season, ranging into shallow left field to barehand a bloop off the bat of Brian Giles in San Diego.

May 19, 2006

As the Mets looked to vault past the Yankees in terms of popularity, Wright did his part with a walk-off single in the Subway Series, blasting a Mariano Rivera cutter to the center-field fence. The Mets won, 7-6.

July 11, 2006

In his 1st career All-Star Game, Wright made an immediate impact by clubbing a Kenny Rogers pitch over the left-field fence at PNC Park. He went on to hit safely in 6 of his 7 career All-Star appearances.

March 17, 2009

Three outs from elimination in the World Baseball Classic, Wright hit a walk-off, 2-run single off Fernando Cabrera to stun Puerto Rico and advance Team USA into the semifinals.

Sept. 25, 2012

Wright didn't need any of his signature power to become the Mets’ all-time hits leader, hustling out an infield single to pass Ed Kranepool with his 1,419th career knock. He went on to rack up a few hundred more over the next 4 seasons, extending his record to 1,777.

March 9, 2013

An outspoken proponent of the World Baseball Classic, Wright solidified his “Captain America” nickname by hitting a grand slam in 2013 pool play against Italy. The blast kept a struggling Team USA alive in the tournament.

March 21, 2013

Shortly after the Mets rewarded Wright with an 8-year, $138 million contract following the 2012 season, the team named him the fourth captain in club history. He joined Gary Carter, Keith Hernandez and John Franco as the only Mets to receive the honor.

Aug. 24, 2015

After missing much of the 2015 season due to spinal stenosis, a degenerative back condition, Wright returned in dramatic fashion by hitting a home run into the second deck in Philadelphia during his first at-bat.

Oct. 30, 2015

In the first World Series game in Queens in 15 years, Wright hit a go-ahead, 2-run homer off Yordano Ventura to electrify the Citi Field crowd. He went on to drive in 4 runs in the Mets’ only win of the Series.

Sept. 29, 2018

Despite Wright’s comeback in 2015, his injury woes only deepened over the next 3 years. He committed to suiting up one last time during an emotional final weekend of the 2018 season at Citi Field.
