1st-rounder Hendrick signs with Reds
The Reds signed first-round Draft pick Austin Hendrick, the club announced on Friday.
Hendrick, selected 12th overall, will get $4 million, per MLB.com's Jim Callis. That's just under the $4,366,400 slot value for the pick. The Reds haven't announced a figure.
The 19-year-old, left-handed-hitting outfielder from West Allegheny High School in Pennsylvania was the best power-hitting prospect from the high-school ranks in this year's Draft class. Hendrick also has a strong arm, which makes him a good fit for right field, and he also has a chance to play center in the pros.
Hendrick was ranked the No. 13 overall 2020 Draft prospect by MLB Pipeline. He played in MLB's inaugural Prospect Development Pipeline League and for the USA 18U National Team last summer. The 6-foot, 195-pound Hendrick was a Mississippi State commit.
