Newcomb needs to be more aggressive than he was on Sunday, when he needed 82 pitches to record 10 outs. The lefty limited the Mets to just one run and issued two walks over 3 1/3 innings. But consistently encountering three-ball counts is not a recipe for success.

Castillo struck out 11 batters over six innings Saturday vs. the Tigers, two shy of his career high. His 24 swing-and-miss strikes were two shy of his career best as well. His changeup and slider remained his best pitches, but his fastball also touched 99 mph.

Turnbull struck out seven of his first 15 batters over five innings in his season debut against the Reds on Sunday. He did not get a decision, extending his winless streak to 19 starts since his last victory on May 31 of last year at Atlanta.
