Yankees Acquire RHP Spencer Howard
The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired RHP Spencer Howard from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations.
Howard, 27, is 3-11 with a 7.20 ERA (115.0IP, 137H, 99R/92ER, 55BB, 109K, 26HR) in 38 career games (29 starts) over parts of four Major League seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies (2020-21) and Rangers (2021-23).
In three relief appearances with the Rangers this season, he has posted a 10.80 ERA (3.1IP, 4ER, 4H, 3BB, 2K, 1HR). Additionally, Howard has gone 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA (18.1IP, 12H, 11ER, 7BB, 30K, 7HR) in nine games (two starts) with Triple-A Round Rock.
The San Luis Obispo, Calif., native was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the second round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Cal Poly (Calif.). He was traded on July 30, 2021, to Texas along with RHP Josh Gessner and RHP Kevin Gowdy in exchange for RHP Kyle Gibson, RHP Ian Kennedy, RHP Hans Crouse and cash considerations.
Additionally today, the Yankees transferred C Jose Trevino to the 60-day injured list.
