White Sox sign five international free agents
CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with international free agents Yolbert Sánchez and Elijah Tatis on 2019 contracts, and Cristian Mena, Wilfred Veras and Erick Bello on contracts for the 2020 season.
Sánchez, 22, is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound, right-handed-hitting shortstop from La Habana, Cuba. He batted .297 (117-394) with eight doubles, four triples, one home run, 36 RBI and 58 runs scored in 128 games over three seasons in the Cuba Serie Nacional from 2015-18.
Tatis, 17, is a 5-foot-11, 155-pound, right-handed-hitting shortstop from Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic. He is the son of former major-leaguer Fernando Tatis Sr. and the younger brother of current major-league shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr.
Mena, 16, is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound, right-handed pitcher from San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic.
Veras, 16, is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound, right-handed-hitting third baseman from San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic.
Bello, 16, is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound, right-handed pitcher from San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic.
The White Sox expect additional Latin American signings in the coming weeks.
