The Chicago White Sox have acquired veteran first baseman Yonder Alonso from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Minor League outfielder Alex Call.
Alonso, 31, hit .250 (129-516) with 19 doubles, 23 home runs, a career-high 83 RBI, 51 walks and 64 runs scored over 145 games with the Indians in 2018. He tied for seventh among Major League first basemen in RBI and ranked eighth among American League left-handers with a .288 (40-139) average with runners in scoring position.
"Alonso provides a proven offensive performer from the left side of the plate and he also brings a veteran presence both on and off the field," said White Sox senior vice president/general manager Rick Hahn. "Yonder has a solid reputation around the league as a professional and a great teammate."
The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Alonso has batted .265 (814-3,070) with 168 doubles, 90 homers, 389 RBI, 327 walks, 357 runs scored, a .336 on-base percentage and .409 slugging percentage in 951 games over nine seasons in the major leagues with Cincinnati (2010-11), San Diego (2012-15), Oakland (2016-17), Seattle (2017) and Cleveland (2018).

A native of La Habana, Cuba, Alonso originally was selected by the Reds in the first round (seventh overall) of the June 2008 First-Year Player Draft. He signed as a free agent with the Indians on January 19, 2018.
Call, 24, hit .248 (107-431) with 28 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs and 58 RBI in 123 games between Class A Winston-Salem and Class AA Birmingham last season. He was selected by the White Sox in the third round of the 2016 Draft.
