Twins Acquire Trevor Richards From Toronto

Club sends Jay Harry to Blue Jays

NEW YORK, NY – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Trevor Richards via trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, in exchange for minor league infielder Jay Harry.

Richards, 31, has appeared in 45 games (2 starts) for the Blue Jays this season, going 2-1 with a 4.64 ERA (52.1 IP, 27 ER), seven holds, 24 walks, 49 strikeouts and a .189 (36-for-190) opponent batting average. Left-handed batters have slashed .175/.256/.250 against him and right-handers have slashed .200/.294/.391. He has posted an expected opponent batting average (xBA) of .202 this season, ranking in the 91st percentile among all major league pitchers. Additionally, since the start of last season, he has posted an 11.09 strikeouts-per-9.0 innings pitched ratio (154 K/125.0 IP), the eighth best in the American League (minimum of 100.0 innings pitched).

The Aviston, Illinois native has played parts of seven major league seasons with the Miami Marlins (2018-19), Tampa Bay Rays (2019-21), Milwaukee Brewers (2021) and Toronto (2021-24), going 24-27 with a 4.51 ERA (547.0 IP, 274 ER), one save, 33 holds, 237 walks and 598 strikeouts in 280 games (61 starts). Since the start of 2022, he has appeared in 163 games, 12th most among American League pitchers.

Harry, 22, has played in parts of two minor league seasons with the Twins from 2023-24 and was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft out of Penn State University.

To make room for Richards on the 26-man roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Josh Staumont for release or assignment.
