DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has purchased the contract of righthanded pitcher Sandy Baez from Single A West Michigan.
Baez, 22, started 21 games for the Whitecaps in 2016 and posted a 7-9 record with a 3.81 ERA (113.1IP/48ER) and 88 strikeouts. A native of Juan Baron, Dominican Republic, Baez was signed by the Tigers as a non-drafted free agent on October 6, 2011. In five minor league seasons, Baez has compiled a 19-19 record with one save, a 3.58 ERA (339.2IP/135ER) and 280 strikeouts in 71 appearances, including 66 starts.
The Tigers 40-man roster now stands at 39.
