Arlington, TX -- Youth in the Dallas area will have another opportunity to learn life lessons through sports at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex Presented by Toyota on Thursday, April 19, as the facility is set to hold a Badges for Baseball clinic.
Texas Rangers third base coach Tony Beasley and former pitcher Darren Oliver are scheduled to join local law enforcement for the event, which will take place on Oates Field, presented by Papa John's.
Created by the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice, Badges for Baseball is a life-skills training program that pairs at-risk youth with law enforcement mentors from local communities, using team sports to teach valuable life lessons. Equally important, Badges for Baseball helps repair contentious relationships between inner-city youth and law enforcement.
Activities will include a baseball and softball clinic with stations for infield, outfield, hitting, pitching, and quickball. A dinner for all participants will follow. Check in begins and 6:00 p.m., while the clinic runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The camp is open to athletes ages 8 through 14. Advance registration is required, and a limited number of spots remain. Registration information can be found at rangers.com/academy.
